Philip
Derby the owner of Freya is quoted in Yachting World as saying,'Although
she is 47ft, I only needed the interior of a Contessa 32, but I
wanted the boat to go like a bat out of hell. I think Bill Dixon
has achieved both of those aims'.
Sailing performance is excellent - sailing upwind in 14 knots Yachting
World reported, ' with her standard jib and full main Freya almost
sailed herself upwind reaching 7 knots and tacking through 60-65
degrees. Close winded and fast in the flat water, she was most rewarding'
The classic styling of Freya's topsides hides a thoroughly modern
underbody, which features a swing keel, reducing her draft from
2.6m to 1.83m.
Freya
uses the latest technology to keep weight down, she weighs in at
only 7.9 tons. Wood epoxy construction and carbon spars, plus foam-cored
interior woodwork, all help to contribute to this low weight. |
